The artist’s work. Their portfolio, meaning photos of the work of whichever permanent makeup artist you choose. Don’t hesitate to ask! Ask to see it at the end! This is your face. You are paying money for the beauty you were promised. And let them show you, but… not clippings from glossy magazines, or retouched photos of somebody else’s work, but real photos of clients “before” and “after” the semi-permanent makeup (tattoo) procedure. Check when it was done, where and on which area, so that it is not fake or copied from other work found on the internet. Listen to your intuition! Every respectable artist must have their own photos of their work! If you do not see such photos, I advise you to choose another artist. Also, don’t be lazy about doing a little research: go to the page of the studio you have chosen on Facebook and read the comments. Give this part great importance. Also search a little on Google! Read the reviews for that particular website. If the comments are blocked, or there are no comments, something is wrong.
It often happens that semi-permanent makeup (tattooing) is done in some medical centers and nail studios… and beauticians, dermatologists, hairdressers and manicure masters get involved with semi-permanent makeup (tattooing)… These people, by definition, have no right to do this, because all their lives they have been treating skin, applying masks, cutting hair and painting nails… Tattooing and semi-permanent makeup is a completely different field! I appeal to beauticians, dermatologists and so on… Ladies and gentlemen! You are certainly wonderful specialists in your own professions, but to do high-quality permanent makeup, that is not enough. You need to know makeup, color, pigment and facial anatomy, to have an excellent sense of style and a sense of limits! You must attend advanced training regularly! You cannot have a foot in two boats. If in the end the people in the above specialties do have a sense of beauty and style, my respect to them! But in the field of tattooing and semi-permanent makeup I have not met such people, unfortunately… perhaps, with rare exceptions. There are many people who work with semi-permanent makeup (tattooing), and only a few professionals. Those who do tattooing and semi-permanent makeup are many, the real professionals are few! If you have decided to have semi-permanent makeup (tattoo) on your face, search thoroughly before deciding where to have it done. Book a consultation appointment, and if something suddenly confuses you in a phone conversation, do so before you place your trust in your artist.
Ask whatever interests you, whatever concerns you, even if your best friend has recommended them! Ask hundreds of questions, even silly ones. Your questions will not corner a competent professional. Because, as you know, there are no silly questions, only answers to them. Don’t hesitate to ask about the smallest detail. This is not as frightening as the consequences of omissions and misunderstandings. Do your research, analyze it, so that you do not have to regret it later!!! I was encouraged to write this appeal by a growing number of clients who come to have poor-quality tattoos corrected.
