Who is medical tattooing for?
Medical tattooing is a lifeline for women who have had a mastectomy and turned to a plastic surgeon for help with breast reconstruction.
Medical tattooing lets us create a single or double nipple (areola) for women who have been through breast cancer.
It is also for women who are not happy with how their breasts look aesthetically, in particular those who dislike the color of the area around the nipple (areola), women who have had breast surgery, anyone who needs scars covered after any breast surgery, and those with nipple asymmetry.
How medical tattooing differs from classic tattooing.
Classic tattooing uses non-organic, chemical substances that stay in the body forever and should be avoided in the case of surgery for breast cancer. In medical tattooing, the pigments are made from iron oxide and are produced in Europe under the strict rules of European legislation. A medical tattoo will fade until it is no longer visible after a few years, so if a woman no longer wants it she does not need any special procedure to get rid of it, unlike a classic tattoo, which can only be removed with a laser.
Contraindications:
- A tendency of the body to form keloids
- Heart conditions
- Epilepsy
- AIDS
- Skin conditions in a flare-up
- Diabetes mellitus (only with permission from your doctor)
- Respiratory infections
- During chemotherapy and radiotherapy
- Pregnancy
How long should I wait after chemotherapy or surgery before I can have a medical tattoo?
A medical tattoo can be applied once at least 1 year has passed since your surgery.
How do I prepare for a medical tattoo on the areola?
First of all, you need permission from your doctor, either your plastic surgeon or a dermatologist. They must approve semi-permanent makeup on the nipple or scar, and we need to confirm that your body does not have a tendency to form keloids.
Once you have the permission in hand, you book a consultation appointment with me.
During our appointment we will discuss every detail. I will explain the treatment fully and answer any questions you have. It is important that you feel comfortable before having any treatment.
We will also do a color test. Why do we do this?
Because the healed color result equals the shade of the pigment used combined with the color of your own skin. After three weeks, once we have a clear result, we will book an appointment for the medical tattoo.
What pigments do we use for medical tattooing?
To restore the color of the nipple we use special pigments made for application on the breast, and only on the breast. They have nothing to do with classic body pigments or classic tattooing. They are organic, semi-permanent, high-quality pigments from reputable European companies and are produced under the strict rules of European legislation (Biotek, Swiss Color, Nouveau Contour).
What is medical tattooing and how is it done?
Medical tattooing is a modern method of aesthetic breast restoration that will certainly boost a woman’s self-esteem! It helps restore the shape and color of the nipple.
Today it is the most effective aesthetic method, allowing a woman to correct natural imperfections and regain her attractiveness and confidence.
Medical tattooing, also known as micropigmentation, is a professional technique. Special devices are used during the application, which, through a very fine needle (nano needle), introduce the pigment under the skin, at the inner epidermal level.
The device we use for micropigmentation is the latest nano-technology and one of the best in the world, from the leading Italian brand ‘BIOTEK’.
The needles used are single-use and sterilized, in specially sealed packaging.
How long does a medical tattoo take?
It is delicate work, and to get the best possible result the application takes about 2 hours.
Does semi-permanent makeup on the nipple hurt?
The area is quite sensitive and there may be slight discomfort. During the application we use a topical anesthetic in cream form, which numbs the area being treated and helps you avoid pain.
How many sessions are needed to see the result and how long does it last?
This depends on your skin, your hormones and your age. You may need only one session, or you may need three. We cannot know for sure. Each session takes place about a month apart. With each visit, however, the color improves and the result becomes more beautiful. The same goes for how long the result lasts: it can last from one to three years. Yes, 1 to 3! It lasts a different length of time on every skin and at every age.
Does a medical tattoo need care straight after the application?
For the first 24 hours, try to avoid contact with water on the area where the micropigmentation was done.
For the following week you will also apply a special pharmacy cream to the nipple, which I will recommend. Scabs form on the treated area, like on a wound that has closed, and this crust will fall off by itself within a week. At first the color will be more intense, but after healing it will lighten and look natural. Healing takes four to six weeks. You also will not be able to go to the beach or the solarium for the next 10 days.
MRI scans:
If you have an MRI scan you must inform the radiologist, because the tattoo appears as an artifact in the imaging.
Laser:
If you have laser hair removal near the nipple area, be careful, because it can change the color of the tattoo, and this cannot be corrected.
Restoring the color of the nipple will change your mood.
Your confidence and self-esteem will rise.
You will live fully and successfully, and that is happiness!
