Step by step, how should you care for your eyebrows after the semi-permanent makeup procedure?
Semi-permanent eyebrow makeup is a type of tattoo. To achieve the perfect result, it is important to look after the skin properly after the procedure.
Day 1: Immediately after the procedure
– The skin in the eyebrow area will be slightly swollen, red and irritated.
The redness and irritation go away within the next few hours, and the swelling does not last more than a day; sometimes there is none at all. This is a normal reaction of the skin, since the pigment is introduced into the skin through a fine needle, which traumatises the upper layer of the epidermis.
-During the procedure, lymph is released, which makes the colour look more intense immediately afterwards.
Right after the procedure, the specialist applies a protective cream with an antibiotic that forms a film and prevents infection. The tiny wound closes within three days, and before it closes, avoid touching the brows with your hands.
Do not remove or soak off the cream.
In the following days a thin crust forms, and you may also feel itching.
– This is a normal phase of healing.
The appearance of itching is a sign of skin regeneration.
What do we do? We apply Bepanthol cream for regeneration and irritation, the classic blue one, for faster healing, two to three times a day and no more.
Why not the pink one, which is for tattoos? Because semi-permanent makeup is not a tattoo: the pigment is not introduced as deep into the epidermis as in a tattoo, so there is no need for such a greasy cream. With semi-permanent makeup, using the tattoo cream pushes the pigment out of the epidermis, so we use the classic blue one.
What should you avoid?
– Scratching the brows.
– Removing the crusts, as this can cause pigment loss.
Over the following days the crusts come off gradually, and the colour looks softer.
The healing process after semi-permanent eyebrow makeup usually takes from 7 to 12 days.
However, the exact duration depends on various factors, such as:
1. Skin type:
– Oily skin may shed the crusts faster because of increased sebum production
– On dry skin regeneration takes longer, because it contains less lipids and moisture, which slows down healing and cell renewal.
Age also plays a role:
– In younger people, cell renewal happens faster, resulting in quicker healing.
– As we get older, cell renewal slows down, which delays the process.
We should also mention hormonal changes such as the menstrual cycle, pregnancy or menopause, all of which can affect skin healing.
Healing on the outside is usually complete within 7-12 days, while the inner layers of the epidermis may take up to 4 weeks to regenerate fully. The final result is visible after 20-25 days.
Now let’s move on to aftercare following semi-permanent eyebrow makeup
– Following the specialist’s aftercare instructions correctly plays a decisive role in successful and quick healing.
Important: Until the skin has peeled
– Do not wet your eyebrows
– Avoid steam and the use of cosmetics in the eyebrow area.
Wash your hair carefully with your head tilted back.
If a little water gets in, remove it
by blotting gently, without rubbing the eyebrow area.
In the first few days it is best not to go to the gym, so that you do not sweat. Also, if you have semi-permanent brows done in the summer and, for example, the weekend comes and you cannot help but go for a swim, you should simply wear a hat. Do NOT put sunscreen on your eyebrows. The use of any cream other than Bepanthol is not allowed. Apply sunscreen to your face carefully, without touching the brows. Also, if you go into the sea, take care that seawater does not get on your face; the same goes for the pool.
If you go for a swim, do it with great care; if you cannot follow these rules, it is better not to go, because the colour will not hold. Also, the sun’s rays can change the colour, so you must wear a hat throughout the whole healing period.
On average, in two weeks all the crusts have come off, the skin has almost healed and the itching has
stopped. The upper layer of the skin heals in 10 days, but full healing takes up to 4 weeks.
After about 25 to 30 days the colour has stabilised completely. That is when it is time for your touch-up.
So, let’s sum up.
1. Do not wet the eyebrows.
– Water, steam or sweat can loosen the crusts and prevent the pigment from settling.
– Avoid the sun, pools, beaches and saunas. Ultraviolet radiation can change the shade of the pigment. Wear a hat until the healing process is complete.
Do not use cosmetics or any other cream in the eyebrow area until the crust has come off.
– Greasy substances can remove the pigment.
– Use “Bepanthol” up to three times a day.
– Semi-permanent makeup is a type of aesthetic tattoo, and 50% of the result depends on your aftercare. Incorrect aftercare can lead to colour loss, or even infection. If the aftercare is correct and the work was done by a professional and is of good quality, the result will last for a long time. For any other information, contact us and we will be happy to help.
